scanning "plein air"

"I snap a lot of photos with my digital camera. Sometimes I see my snapshots as paintings, especially when subject matter is backlit. When I have a particularly interesting composition I consider rendering it realistically as a digital watercolor. This painting media substitutes natural media with artistic software: pixel brushes on a digital easel. "My printer is my paint brush." I use both deep, rich, saturated pigments and light, bright, loose brushstrokes- I let the composition decide which. After the impression is made on a watercolor sheet or fabric canvas I might disrupt the pigment and add texture or metallic sparkle. I will often "build" the richness of a painting with multiple runs through the printer. I can produce many different versions from the original plate in a variety of sizes and price points. Sometimes it's really difficult to decide which one I like best! Often the color palette can be modified to coordinate with the decor. My paintings are NOT "reproductions" and I consider them much more than the usual "giclee" edition print. Every canvas is a "one-off" or "monoprint". The others are usually commissioned, unique works of art. My patrons are often presented with a choice of 2 or 3 variations of the commission. My subject matter includes "plein air" landscapes of New England, snow and seashore themes, Americana, children and botanical still life."
